Section 04 · Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about the claim process.
The answers below cover how refund recovery works, what it costs, and how your information is handled. If your question is not addressed here, our team is glad to help.
Costs & Fees
There is no upfront cost. Document review, eligibility analysis, and claim filing are provided at no charge. Our recovery fee is assessed only when a refund is successfully obtained on your behalf, and is collected as a portion of the recovered amount. If no recovery is obtained, no fee is owed.
Our recovery fee is a defined percentage of the refund amount actually recovered on your behalf. The exact percentage is disclosed in your service agreement before any claim is filed, so you know the terms in advance. If no refund is recovered, no fee is charged.
No. Document review, eligibility analysis, claim preparation, and administrator follow-up are all provided at no charge. The only amount ever assessed is the contingency recovery fee, and only after a refund has been obtained.
The recovery fee is collected at the disbursement stage, once a refund has been issued. It is applied against the recovered amount in accordance with the terms of your service agreement — never before a refund is in hand.
Eligibility
When an F&I product is cancelled, the dealership's commission on that product is partially reversed — a process known in the industry as a chargeback. This creates a structural disincentive for dealerships to inform consumers of their refund rights. Your right to cancel and recover the unearned portion is contractually guaranteed, but the responsibility to initiate the claim falls on the consumer.
Claim intake is currently open to residents of California, Nevada, Arizona, and Oregon. We are expanding to additional states; residents elsewhere may still submit a review request and will be notified when intake opens in their state.
Eligibility depends on the term of each F&I product and the date of the qualifying event rather than a single fixed deadline. Most recoverable claims involve vehicles purchased within the last several years. We assess each contract individually and will tell you candidly if a claim is unlikely to be recoverable.
Original documents make review faster, but they are not always required. We can often identify the products purchased and their administrators from a buyer's order, a financing statement, or dealership records. Submit whatever you have and we will advise you on next steps.
The Filing Process
From submission of complete documentation, most claims complete the administrator review and disbursement process within 60–90 days. Some product administrators process faster, while others may extend beyond this window. National Auto Refund Group manages all follow-up correspondence throughout the process.
Consumers are entitled to file claims directly with product administrators. However, the process requires identification of each cancellable product, location of the appropriate administrator (not the selling dealership), preparation of administrator-specific cancellation forms, and ongoing follow-up. We handle this process on your behalf as a service.
At minimum, your contact information, basic vehicle details, and the circumstances of your status change. Supporting documents — your buyer's order, F&I product contracts, and payoff or trade documentation — strengthen the claim and speed the review, but partial information is accepted to start.
No. National Auto Refund Group manages all correspondence with product administrators on your behalf. You are not required to contact the dealership, lender, or administrator directly at any point in the process.
Refund Mechanics
When an outstanding loan exists, refunds are typically remitted to the lienholder and applied to the principal loan balance. While the funds do not arrive as a direct payment to you, the benefit is realized through reduced loan balance, accelerated payoff, and increased vehicle equity.
Refunds are prorated based on the unused portion of each product's term — typically by time elapsed or miles driven, depending on the contract. The administrator calculates the unearned amount under the terms of your original agreement, sometimes net of a small cancellation fee.
Refunds are issued by the product administrator — the company that backs the contract — not by the dealership and not by National Auto Refund Group. We prepare and submit the cancellation, then track it through to disbursement.
If your loan is paid off, the refund is generally remitted to you directly. If a loan remains active, it is typically applied to your principal balance with the lienholder. The destination is governed by the terms of your original contract.
Privacy & Security
Information you provide is used solely to assess and file your refund claim. We do not sell your personal information. Our Privacy Policy and California Privacy Rights notice describe in full the categories of information collected and your rights regarding it.
We share information only as necessary to file your claim — for example, with the relevant product administrator — and we never sell it. Information handling follows the practices described in our Privacy Policy.
Uploaded documents are transmitted over an encrypted connection and held in access-controlled storage. They are retained only as long as needed to administer your claim and to meet applicable recordkeeping obligations.
Legal Status
No. National Auto Refund Group is a private refund recovery service. We do not provide legal advice and are not a law firm. We are not affiliated with any government agency, dealership, lender, or insurance carrier. Our service is limited to assisting consumers in filing for refunds owed under their original F&I product contracts.
No. National Auto Refund Group is independent. We are not affiliated with any dealership, lender, insurer, or product administrator, and we do not represent any class action or court-approved settlement.
No outcome can be guaranteed. Whether a refund is owed — and in what amount — depends on the products purchased, the term elapsed, and each administrator's policies. We assess eligibility honestly and file claims where we believe a recoverable refund exists.
